There is something truly magical about growing sunflowers and many reasons to grow them – here are some of my favourites:
- They are very easy to grow
- There are many varieties growing from just 12 inches tall to towering 14-foot giants
- They are great for bees and other polinators
- Depending on the variety, they can be grown for edible seeds or cut flowers
- You can leave the seed heads up overwinter as food for the birds
- You can grow shorter varieties in pots
Sunflowers are easy-care, but they do need to be planted in full sun – and their bright petaled heads will follow the sun through the day.
You will also want to give them a nice nutrient-rich soil to grow in to support their showy blooms and keep them well watered.
