Traditional English Scones

These are quick and easy to make - perfect for an afternoon tea - or anytime to be honest!
Not too sweet and great to have with a bit of butter and jam or even some clotted cream for total indulgence.
Once you get the hang of the basic flour and butter mix, you can eliminate the sugar and substitute the raisins for herbs, ham, or some cheese for a savoury twist.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions
 

  • Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees F
  • Blend the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together
  • Add in the butter and using your fingers, rub together until you have a fine crumb
  • Stir in the raisins
  • Add in the milk a little at a time and mix until you have a soft dough
  • Gather the dough together with your hands to form a ball
  • Turn onto a floured surface and roll and shape into a 1/2 inch thick rectangle
  • Cut into 8 even pieces and gently shape as desired
  • Place on a baking sheet and cook for 10 minutes 
  • Cool on a wire rack
